Volkswagen sold in October in the European Union slightly fewer cars than a year earlier, but remains despite all the commotion surrounding the diesel scandal as popular with consumers.
According to figures published by the European car industry association ACEA Tuesday.
Within the Volkswagen Group, the sales of its own brand by 0.2 percent to more than 136 000 cars. With a market share of over 12 percent, Volkswagen was still by far the best-selling car.
Volkswagen Skoda subsidiaries (minus 2.6 percent) and Seat (minus 11.4 percent) were clearly less popular. Audi and Porsche won just popularity. Total sales for the Volkswagen Group fell by 0.5 percent.
In total car sales in October for the twenty-sixth consecutive month, this time by nearly 3 percent.
Market share
The Volkswagen Group has a market share of over 25 percent in the EU, making it by far the largest player in the European car market. The French car manufacturers PSA Peugeot Citroen and Renault followed with shares of respectively 11 tight and cramped 10 percent.
The European market share of Volkswagen Group in October was slightly smaller than a year earlier (25.9 percent). Which applied also to the other major players, PSA, Renault, Ford and Opel.
Number six BMW or expanded its market share. Also Mercedes-producer Daimler got a bigger share of the market.
