Beware, spoiler alert. The mystery surrounding the origin of the Countess (Lady Gaga) was finally resolved in the seventh episode of American Horror Story: Hotel, entitled ‘Flicker’.
Countess history dates back to 1925, in Hollywood, when Elizabeth is an aspiring actress in the silent era. When participating as an extra in the filming of a movie, the character of Lady Gaga knows Rodolfo Valentino (Finn Wittrock), a star of the film industry who invited her to his home for dinner. Although it is now the woman who manages the macabre hobby of March, killing people in their hotel, Elizabeth faithfully visit the tomb of Rodolfo to the point of becoming a cult figure for gossip magazines. One day in the mausoleum that shares the actor reappears Natacha to say no cries for her husband because it is actually alive, only faked his death to live forever. Rodolfo confirms it almost instantly and recent history tells her ‘beautiful’.
Rodolfo was on tour promoting his latest film, The Son of the Sheik, when he noticed he was being followed by a man who did not take his eyes off her. After several days of uncertainty and concern, this enigmatic character appears one night in his room and comes as Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, the famous director of Nosferatu (1922), who offers him the gift of conservation. To make his masterpiece, the filmmaker traveled to the depths of the Carpathians, where he met his creatures as the movies, but beautiful thanks to an old blood virus that allowed them to live forever in exchange for a terrible bloodlust. When the director offers eternal youth, regardless Rodolfo accepts mean the end of his career. Soon after, he fakes his death.
