Facebook is a test started with ‘M’: a smart assistant that needs to compete with other digital assistants such as Siri, Google Now and Cortana

M is for now only available to users in the so-called San Francisco Bay Area in California. When the service is also transported to other fields is not known.
The digital assistant works from Facebook’s messaging service Messenger. Unlike most competitors M does not work with voice commands, but the user must chat with the digital assistant. M does not have gender, in contrast to most digital assistants.
Users can ask the assistant for help or to perform tasks. Facebook seems to be doing, to focusing mainly on commercial applications: M instance, book a restaurant, find a birthday gift, or are asked to make suggestions for a fun trip.
In answering these questions makes M is now no use of the large amount of data that Facebook collects about its users. It has to do for now with the answers given by the user. M is possible later will use that data, says Facebook Messenger head David Marcus. “At some point, with the consent of the user.”
