Google takes two companies over a public WiFi network construction in New York. The company’s technology must be deployed worldwide.
Reported Wired . Companies LinkNYC and Titan will in future work together under the name Intersection, and part of Google’s newly established company Sidewalk Labs, which aims to improve city life.
“The vision is to create connected cities places you on every street complimentary high-speed WiFi can use,” said Dan Doctoroff, director of Sidewalk Labs. Previously, he was director of Bloomberg and Deputy Mayor of New York.
Sidewalk Labs exists as an independent company under Google, but according Doctoroff is possible that the Internet giant in the future will help in providing Wi-Fi connections. Moreover hotspots LinkNYC already run on Android, Google’s operating system.
In New York, use the old telephone companies to install hotspots, but that will vary from place to place. Also street furniture like bus shelters and bike racks could be used.
It is still unclear where Sidewalk Labs plans to roll out its next Wi-Fi network.
